Statemint — What it does for your business
Statemint

Bookkeeping software that actually understands UK accounting — not just spreadsheets with better colours.

Statemint turns raw bank and credit card statements into properly categorised, HMRC-ready books — director's loans, dividends, VAT and PAYE handled the way an accountant would handle them, not dumped into "miscellaneous."

Built for UK sole traders, limited companies, and the accountants who look after them.

Why it matters

The advantage isn't "faster bookkeeping." It's fewer costly mistakes.

Most bookkeeping tools are good at moving numbers around. Statemint is built specifically around UK accounting rules, so the numbers land in the right place the first time.

⏱️

Hours back every month

Import a statement once and Statemint categorises every line against UK income, expense and balance-sheet categories automatically — review and approve instead of typing it all in by hand.

🛡️

Fewer expensive surprises

Overdrawn director's loans, missed capital allowances, and unusual transactions get flagged as they happen — not discovered by your accountant at year-end, when there's less room to fix them.

📑

Accountant-ready, not accountant-required

Statutory P&L, balance sheet, and FRS 102 disclosure notes are generated in the layout your accountant already expects — cutting the back-and-forth before your accounts get filed.

🧭

See where you stand, not just where you were

A live dashboard, cash flow view and budget-vs-actuals mean you're managing the business day to day, not just reconstructing history once a quarter.

🧩

Grows with the business

Start as a sole trader, incorporate later, and the same tool follows you — payroll, corporation tax, dividends and director's accounts are already there when you need them.

👥

Built to scale for practices

Accountants and bookkeepers can run unlimited clients from one place — each with its own financial year and VAT scheme — without juggling separate spreadsheets or logins.

Statemint currently imports statements from nine major UK banks — including Revolut, Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Monzo and Starling — as PDF, CSV, or Excel files.

Is my financial data secure?

Yes. Your statement data and reports are stored locally on your device. Only the text of a transaction description — never account numbers, balances, or personal details — is sent off to be categorised.

Can my accountant use this for several clients?

Yes. The Statemint For Accountants plan is designed for managing multiple clients. You can manage unlimited client accounts, with each client keeping their own financial year, VAT settings and financial records.

Does Statemint replace my accountant?

No. Statemint is designed to make bookkeeping easier and keep your financial records organised and ready for review. It helps prepare your accounts, reports and tax information so your accountant can spend less time sorting your books and more time advising you.

Which tax years does Statemint cover?

Statemint has HMRC rates built in from the 2022/23 tax year onwards, and we add each new tax year's rates as soon as they're confirmed.

What file formats can I import?

Statemint can import bank statements in PDF, CSV and Excel formats. It reads the transactions and prepares them for categorisation without requiring you to manually re-format the statement first.

Can Statemint handle VAT, PAYE and payroll?

Yes. Statemint supports UK accounting requirements including VAT, PAYE, employee and employer National Insurance, Employment Allowance, dividends and director's loans. Payroll calculations use the appropriate HMRC rates for the selected tax year.

What reports can Statemint generate?

Statemint can generate key reports including profit and loss, balance sheet and year-end reports. Depending on your plan, you can also generate payroll, VAT and other financial reports. Reports can be exported for your records or shared with your accountant.

Can I review and correct the automatic categorisation?

Yes. Statemint automatically categorises your transactions, but you remain in control. You can review the suggested categories, correct anything that looks wrong and approve your transactions before generating your reports.

Does Statemint work for sole traders and limited companies?

Yes. Statemint is designed for both sole traders and limited companies, with features tailored to different UK business accounting and tax requirements.

Can I export my data and reports?

Yes. Statemint allows you to generate and export your financial reports and data, making it easy to keep your own records or share the information with your accountant.

What happens if Statemint categorises a transaction incorrectly?

You can review every categorisation before approving your transactions. If something has been categorised incorrectly, you can change the category before generating your final reports.
